Today’s Spanish word of the day is “correr”.

It’s a verb meaning “to run”.

“Correr” is a regular verb. Here’s the conjugation in the present tense:

  • Yo corro – I run
  • Tú corres – You run (informal singular)
  • Él/Ella/Usted corre – He/She runs, You run (formal singular)
  • Nosotros/Nosotras corremos – We run
  • Vosotros/Vosotras corréis – You run (informal plural, only used in Spain)
  • Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes corren – They run, You run (plural)

As well as referring to running in a literal sense, the word can also be used metaphorically in phrases such as the following:

  • Correr peligro – To be in danger (literally “to run danger”)
  • Correr el riesgo – To run/take the risk
  • Correr la voz – To spread the word (literally “to run the voice”)

Me gusta correr en el parque.

I like to run in the park.

¡No corras! Camina despacio.

Don’t run! Walk slowly.

Mi hermano corre cinco kilómetros cada mañana.

My brother runs five kilometers every morning.
