Regreso

Regreso

Today’s Spanish word of the day is “regreso”. It’s a masculine noun meaning “return” or “return journey”.

It comes from the Latin word regressus, which meant “return” or “going back”, and is also the root of several English words including “regress” and “regression”.

Another common Spanish word that translates as “return” is “vuelta”. However, “vuelta” is a more versatile word, that can also mean “turn”, “revolution” (as in turning an object), or “stroll”.

A return ticket may be referred to as a “boleto de regreso” (Latin America) or “billete de regreso” (Spain). However, it’s more common to say “boleto/billete de ida y vuelta” (literally “ticket of depature and return”).
