Today’s Spanish word of the day is “jamás”.
It’s an adverb meaning “never”. It’s a bit stronger and more emphatic than the word “nunca”, which also means “never”. You can also use the two words together to drive home a point, for example:
- Nunca jamás lo haré. – I’ll never ever do it.
The word “jamás” comes from Latin iam magis, which literally meant “already more” and was used to mean “ever”. At some point, the word acquired the opposite meaning, “never”.
