Sueño

Sueño

Today’s Spanish word of the day is “sueño”.

It’s a masculine noun meaning “dream” or “sleep”.

If you want to say you are tired in Spanish, you would say “tengo sueño” (literally “I have sleep”).

Like the English word “dream”, the Spanish word “sueño” can be used metaphorically to refer to hopes and aspirations as well as dreams we have while we’re asleep.

The word “sueño” comes from Latin somnus, which is also the source of several English words including “insomnia” and “somnambulism” (sleepwalking).

Mi sueño es viajar por el mundo.

My dream is to travel around the world.

Hoy me desperté con mucho sueño.

Today I woke up feeling very sleepy.

¿Cuál es tu sueño?

What is your dream?
