Today’s Spanish word of the day is “club”.
It’s a masculine noun meaning, as you might have guessed, “club”. It refers to clubs in the sense of groups and associations as well as nightclubs, but not clubs in the sense of heavy sticks or the suit in cards.
If you want to refer to a golf club, you would say “palo de golf” (literally “golf stick”). If you want to refer to the suit of clubs in cards, the Spanish word is “tréboles” (singular “trebol”), which means “clovers”.
“Club” is an example of a loanword which has entered Spanish directly from English. The plural in Spanish is “clubes” rather than “clubs” like in English.
